Underwriting Exceptions Management

Effective 9/1/2026

Overview

Certain proposals require underwriting review before they can be quoted or bound. When this occurs, the Generate Proposal button is unavailable and agents must use Underwriting Exceptions Management.

Common Reasons for Exceptions

Examples include:

    • Estimated premium exceeds underwriting thresholds.
    • Certain class code situations.
    • Straight-through processing requirements are not met.
    • Temporary staffing or leasing risks.
    • Certain state-specific submissions.

How to Review an Exception

    • Open the proposal.
    • Select UW Exception Management.
    • Review the exception details.
    • Correct any issues, if possible.
    • Select Request Proposal if underwriting review is required.

NASICS Code Exception Example

If the proposal fails due to a NAICS code issue:

    • Select Edit Proposal.
    • Use the lookup option to select the correct NAICS code.
    • Run Rating Calculations.
    • Resubmit the proposal.
